19 places to eat the best buffet in Amsterdam (2024)

Located in a lush and green area of Amsterdam, ClinkNOORD is a newcomer to the hostel scene. Offering free walking tours and Wi-Fi, as well as a buzzy bar, the hostel is perfect for budget-conscious travellers. Mixed dorms start at €24 per night, while private ensuite rooms can be booked for €80.

Stayed here for 3 nights and had a great experience. The hostel is very big and modern which has its positives and negatives. There was a great bar with good food and a huge common area to chill in during the day. The location is a little bit out of the way but the free ferry to the city centre was awesome.

Had an okay experience here. The rooms were small but adequate. I chose a double private room which had a bathroom attached. The rooms were clean, however our AC didn’t work. I informed the front desk about this, and they said they would have someone to fix it. No one ever did. I also said I would get a fan but they never gave me one. The staff were friendly but seemed annoyed when I asked for help with this. The laundry services were fine but a little pricey. It was a great location however, as it was a quick walk to the free ferry that brought you right across the river to the train station and center of town.

Tayler — Google review

Great hostel for a young audience. Ideal location for visiting the city centre. The boat connection to the central station is a lot more efficient than i thought it would be. The common rooms of the hotel look cool and inviting and seem well maintained. The rooms were small and minimalistic, but efficient and everything you need is there. Good value for money.

Pros: Excellent location! It is right across from Amsterdam Central so it makes it extremely easy to access the trains, trams, and metro quick. The ferry ran 24/7 and we never waited more than 5 minutes. The surrounding area of the hostel was quaint and quiet, which we preferred. As well, there is a grocery store around the corner to save some money. We requested early check-in ($5 euros) and had a private room (including a bathroom), which was cleaned very well. The temperature at night could be changed in the private rooms so we slept quite well. The main room with all the amenities was really interesting; it’s either really busy or really empty depending on the time of day. As two females, we felt quite safe in our room and entering/leaving the building.Cons: The wifi barely worked, we ended up just using our data (could have been where our room was located but quite frustrating). A few of the amenities were an extra charge so they never got used and it seemed odd having to pay $2 euros for an air hockey game. The bar and breakfast was quite pricey too, we ended up buying food elsewhere. As well, on the smaller scale, the water pressure in the shower wasn’t very strong.Overall, we had a good time for our three nights and met some new people!

I had initially booked a single bed room, but it certainly wasn't cheap! On the first day, despite being informed that check-in was at 16:00, I had to wait until 16:35 to finally receive the room due to it being cleaned!! Additionally, it's important to note that if you require an early check-in or a late checkout, they do charge an extra fee. However, it seems rather unfair that they expect payment for these services while they themselves may not deliver the room promptly upon check-in.Moreover, the most frustrating aspect was the bed, which squeaked horribly and made it difficult to get a proper night's sleep. Every slight movement felt like an earthquake. Additionally, they had a small room where they had cut the bed to fit it into the limited space. The towels were not changed daily, and the room was not cleaned on a daily basis, even for guests staying multiple nights. However, they did empty the trash on a daily basis. Furthermore, the room had a window that couldn't be opened. Essentially, it resembled more of a storage or cellar, with a poorly constructed bed forcibly placed inside, and a window providing only a narrow view of the hallway or something similar. In conclusion, if you're a backpacker or looking for a lively atmosphere with options like parties or karaoke, they do offer shared rooms at a cheaper price. However, if you're on a business trip or seeking a comfortable place to sleep and enjoy your stay, this is not a suitable choice. I must admit that despite Amsterdam's reputation for high prices, paying 100 euros per night for such accommodations is simply not worthwhile.

Amazing location- central but peaceful.Great communal areas and lots of social stuff and activities. But very basic room with a window that looked inwards to an atrium so not much light. Harsh ceiling light and felt a lot like a cell. Just one thin pillow per person and one small shower towel, no hand/hair towels provided.Double room daily rate of over €220 but didn't get any housekeeping in 3 days despite requesting it. Complaint was ignored so I don't even know if this was normal but certainly not what I would have expected. Had to get my own towels and shower gel from reception and old wet towels not removed from the room. No spare bath mat yet the shower didn't drain so everywhere was soaking. When my loo roll ran out and I asked for it to be replaced they left a huge roll on my bed, but the big wall mounted dispenser was locked so I couldn't replace it myself. By the end of my stay the room was really not nice at all and as a clean person I found myself cleaning up and wiping around, which isn't really right in a hotel! My complaint to head office has been ignored.

The location and value for money is well-worth it. And the hostel has daily activities and a lot of areas for guests to enjoy. The room was good, but the fact that the shower was open to the rest of the bathroom was a downside, as the water went to the room if we weren't careful enough.Overall, I would recommend and will most definitely come back.

Good things: The place was the best. Close to the center. The price as well was good enough, if you don't use the expensive facilities. Nice lobby and nice activities happens there.Bad things: They like the client to pay very expensive for everything. For example for a towel approximately 7€, to stay till the normal check out time (12m) the same price etc. So if someone like to visite the town for one day, has to do check at 4pm!!!! and check out at 10am!!!! = No time to see the town in the day light!!!! Of course he/she/it could leave the luggage at the hostel paying more!!!!. So, if you like to have the usual facilities of a hostel, the real price is much more money! It would be much better for the hostel to say that the real price is much more than 50€/day to know the visitor if choose it or not.The toilets are not clean the most time of the day

Loved our stay! We had a family room and it was perfect for our needs. We also loved the atmosphere and all the activities in the shared area. My family played air hockey, table tennis, watched movies and enjoyed the music from the live DJ and band on various nights. The hotel was conveniently located a free ferry ride across the water from downtown Amsterdam.

Jamie B — Google review

Stayed here with 3 friends, we had a 4 bed room between us. Everything was great. Really good vibe, friendly staff. You need to get a ferry over to the center but it runs 24 hours and is very regular, it was nice to stay somewhere so easily accessible but a little bit out of the madness. I'll definitely be looking to stay again the next time I'm in Amsterdam.

The absolute best hostel experience I've ever had in any country. Such a cool space! Good people, not too rowdy, quiet sleeping areas (in our private room), very clean, good beer at the bar, amazing hang spaces, good events.

Sierra S — Google review

It's a great hostel. Lots of fun to be had and I felt really safe there as a lone female traveller. The breakfast was great. The shower was nice and hot, although the water went everywhere except down! It was super easy to get to with just a short, free ferry ride from the station.

Excellent and very large hostel, good for groups and with rooms for families. Had a private dorm. Spotless. Facilities great - lots of recreational activities to pass the time, big bar, cafe. Location is really good: it's just across the river from Central Station - with regular free ticketless ferries running all night. Age range largely young but caters for families too. So lively, but not a party hostel. Really friendly staff.

First time I've stayed in a hostel and I would definitely return. Very fun shared space with a pool table, table tennis table, air hockey table. Do nice food for a quick snack. You need to get the ferry across the river to get to the city centre but they are free so it wasn't an issue. Rooms are small but clean, you cant expect much. Good service and access to lockers to store your bags in, which we did when we checked out but were waiting for our train.

Jamie H — Google review

Easy and clean place to stay at. My 8 bed dorm has the toilet, shower room and lockers outside the actual bedroom so no-one was woken up by that kind of stuff. My USB charging point wasn't working but it was fixed easily during the day. Super quick and easy to get to the main part of town. Would stay again for sure

Taimi M — Google review

Nice hostel with small bit well kept and modern rooms(I only sleep in it anyway so space isn't an issue).Ferry is only a few minutes walk and runs every 5-10mins(time of day/week) dependant. My only gripe would be that the bar is hard to run with one staff member and on two different nights I spent over 10minutes waiting to get a Pint(staff making 5minute co*cktails and not being very aware of who was next was frustrating).

S G — Google review

We stayed there for 4 nights and it went really good. We shared a room with two more people, really nice people. The hotel itself it's beautiful and the staff is nice. The buffet breakfast could be better.

Daniela N — Google review

The best hostel in Amsterdam! Great atmosphere, great staff, music in common areas, very busy and friendly, good location (right across the river in front of the train station... just take the free ferry). There's ping pong, jenga, pool table and a lot more to do inside the hostel. I love the common area, with plenty of tables and sofas. It's also super clean.Plus, there is a restaurant and a bar inside!!!

Eduardo P — Google review

Brill location, fab communal areas. Loved the vibes in the reception and bar.Got a private double room which let the place down unfortunately as it featured what was probably the world's most uncomfortable bed. Considered sleeping on the floor a few times. Also my plug was weird, luckily I could rest my phone on the headboard to charge overnight.

aph — Google review

Great hostel to stay and meet other people. Fun events in the evenings such as karaoke nights, co*cktail making, painting etc. Location was good, although if you're interested solely in nightlife in Amsterdam, you may want to stay a bit closer.

Chris — Google review

Was there for one night. The rooms are perfect in terms of space and tidy and they do have big lockers which can be used with your own locks. The beds are spacious with fresh blanket and pillow covers.I am very impressed with the cleanliness and arrangement of toilets and showers in the rooms. The staffs are super helpful and nice. They have good breakfast, healthy ones, enough to be considered as brunch to keep one fuelled for the entire day. They have enough places in the lounge where one can relax before checkin or after checkout. Amazing hostel for travellers, specially students. Will visit you whenever I come to Amsterdam.

Ahan D — Google review

I stayed here for two months, sharing the room with another person. The location is great, and the reception has generally been nice and helpful when needed. My room even had the shower and the toilet separated. However, a few things were quite disappointing. The cleaning service was mediocre, to say the least. It primarily had to be done by me and my roommate. Expect this also in the common kitchen and dining area, even when it is not crowded. I should add that this is considered a "party hostel", meaning that they frequently host parties during the weekend (usually). Obviously, this makes it difficult to sleep during those nights.Overall, if you are planning to stay in Amsterdam for a few days, go for it. But if you work/study while looking for a more stable place, I would suggest you consider other options if you can.

I stayed here about 7 years ago and loved it. Now staying here again and still love it. Location is perfect with the free, 24/7 ferry to get right into the center of Amsterdam. Hostel is great, feels secure, friendly and a great vibe. Will definitely stay here again if i return

The rooms are a descent size for how many people are in them, and the lockers were good. The common area is also nice. However the place is pretty expensive for what it is. They also have like 1 shower and bathroom for every 40 people which is crazy. It is quite at night and they do have like burgers and burritos that are made during the day and for sale anytime which is a life saver if you get into town super late and everything is closed.

Kevin K — Google review

The hostel itself it's pretty nice. It has a lot to offer and also the location can't be bet.But as it's massive, they can't really keep up with the customers. I ended up waiting for 2,5 hours to get my room being cleaned, which is fine because check in time is already late (4pm) but then I checked my room and the bed I was supposed to take was not made at all.Long story short: I had to change bed 3 times, which is already not amusing but then the staff was real unfriendly and blamed me for changing bed even it was clearly their systems fault. Wouldn't come again, wouldn't recommend.

I arrived at 7:30 in the morning. The staff was very helpful and kind to let me check in.I was able to get ready for the canal trip and biking tour. It's a unbeatable location. You can take express train from airport to Amsterdam Central ( last stop) and take the ferry for free , runs 24/7, to go to Hostel. The ferry located at the back of train station. It provides lots of activities from stand up shows to Solo traveler meetup.... Don't forget to bring your towels if you don't have private bathroom. You have to " hire the towels" for 3.00 per day.Break fast was simple but good. They also have kitchen and laundry facilities.Overall it was a great stay! Will definitely come back again.

Fantastic hostel, I'll definitely come back for any future trip to Amsterdam. The location is perfect (very handy if you're arriving/leaving by train), the staff is super nice and the rooms are clean and well organized. Also felt very safe as a female solo traveler!

Camilla F — Google review

Overall, this was a good stay. Reception could be more helpful and friendly. The location is excellent, as the ferry runs so frequently. The rooms were clean, but cramped. The social spaces are very cool and offer lots of activity options.

Candice S — Google review

I loved the location of the Hostel and the communal areas were very good. However, most of the lockers in the room were broken, which I understand is a common problem. The staff came across as a little disinterested. Overall I enjoyed my stay, but value for money it was a little expensive.

Gavin A — Google review

Great location - boat was great fun, only took two mins and runs 24/7. Love the heating/AC on the room. The only downside of the hostel was having to rent towels/lockers/shower gel. Staff were very nice and helpful.

Gwen W — Google review

I didn't take many photos of the hostel but it was a such a great stay. I was a bit worried about taking the ferry but it was so easy and fun (+nice view). The room was clean with a good temperature, the reception was very helpful, and there was a halloween party at the bar, which was very nice to meet people even from outside the hostel. If I go back to Amsterdam, I will definitely stay here again.

I actually didn’t spend much time here beyond sleeping and getting ready, but the bar and lounge areas looked nice. I was in an all female room and it was nice — clean, with two private sinks, and a communal shower across the hall so you didn’t have to rely on using just the room’s. Location and price is great! It’s just a short walk to the ferry, and the ferry was spacious and right on schedule. One of the nicer hostels I’ve stayed in. As a solo female traveler I recommend.

This was my first time staying in a hostel, so I did not know what to expect once I arrived. The customer service was good and it was easy to check-in and check-out.Rooms and Environment:This hostel was accompanied by public bathrooms, a zinc-bar which also served dinner foods, €9 breakfast, and a game room. It appears that this hostel seems more accommodating for a younger audience.Anyway, I was in a 4 bedroom room with 3 other people. So the room was very small and claustrophobic. The shower was odd and it doesn’t have a door so it gets water all over the bathroom. The soap dispenser didn’t work and it continued to leak and get all over the bathroom, as well, which was not fun. Overall, the ambiance of the hostel is nice and calm, but the rooms are very small, especially for a room with 4 people. For the overpriced rate, I was not happy about the room or the other issues of the room. Will I come back? Probably not, but besides those issues I had, it was a good hostel to go to since it was near the train station and was a quick walk away from Jordaan and the other neighborhoods. It was safe and a good place to stay for a short period.

Our stay at Clink NOORD was so amazing! The check in is painless and high tech, with everything being on the phone. The rooms are clean, spacious, and the beds are very comfortable. This is probably one of the nicest hostels I have stayed in, and I have stayed in my fair share. It is across the water from the main area in Amsterdam, with only a ferry ride and a short walk away. It keeps it quiet, and the whole travel process from side to side takes about 10-15 minutes, so it is not bad.

The structure of the hostel is great, with several events to socialize. A large, spacious and welcoming leisure area. The location is great for those who don't want the madness of the center, but is still close to tourist attractions. In addition to the ferry, which is free, it leaves every 5 minutes and gives you easy access to the other side of the city. The only point of improvement for me would be the privacy in the room. There could be a curtain between the beds and the beds should already have sheets when guests arrive.Otherwise, I loved it and intend to return.

Giulia A — Google review

Excellent location near Amsterdam Central station, but not directly in downtown. The ferry is free and runs 24 hours a day. Takes approximately 45 seconds to cross water and the ferry leaves approximately every 3 mins.Rooms were fine. I needed to do some self cleaning of the space because there were food/beverage stains on the walls that the staff never cleaned. The bathrooms also don't have a U bend in the pipes which allows fumes to come straight from the sewer lines. Prepare for the shower and restroom to smell like a sewer. Otherwise, the property has excellent common areas and a good kitchen. I appreciated that the lockers were in an entrance room before you got to the bunks. This means you didn't get woken up by people leaving early or coming in late. Staff was friendly and helpful. They assisted me in tracking down some of my stuff when a cleaning associate accidentally removed my stuff from my bunk thinking I had checked out after my first day.

My wife and I stayed here for 4 days for my birthday. The hostel is in a calm area, although in the hostel it was loud. The bed is hard and small. The housekeeping came once in 4 days, after that we had to share the only towel left. There is a loud ventilation one can't turn off.

Had an awesome experience staying at the ClinkNoord. The staff were all very friendly and went above and beyond to help make my stay more enjoyable as I was there. The space has a great energy and I was able to meet lots of people while I was there. Definitely not a party hostel, but the nightly events were a cool opportunity to socialize with the other people staying there. The rooms are quite nice, very clean with seperate shower and toilet rooms so you aren't fighting for space with your roommates. The only thing I wish the room had was a shade for the lower bunks, but I put a towel up and it worked well. The only issue I had while staying was with some roommates that would party and be loud in the room until 5 am. They left the room extremely messy and made it impossible to stay in the room. The staff were very quick and accommodating to get me a room switch and I was finally able to get some sleep.Overall, I would recommend this hostel to other visitors looking for a laid back stay. I would book here again for sure.

Great Experience staying at ClinkNOORD! The employees were really friendly and the big common area is comfortable. It has a great location, because the city center is reached easily, but the hostel is still located in a rather quiet surrounding. The bathroom smelled a bit bad but the rooms were overall nice. Bring a lock for the privat locker, since there aren’t any provided for free!

Sarah G — Google review

Stayed at the female only dorm where they have private bathroom & toilet which I find that super convenient and safe for us. Room was considered spacious where it could accommodate up to 10 person, where each of us will have our own locker. Staffs are friendly, common area are cozy; canteen and bar area are full of laughter.

Rebecca L — Google review

Loved staying here and the staff were all very friendly- especially Adrian, Michel and Martha in Zinc Bar! Rooms were comfortable and bathrooms were very modern. Great social spaces and seating if you want to meet others or take a quiet minute to yourself with a drink from the bar. Would definitely stay here again :)

Dawn S — Google review

The facilities were nice and the space was clean but the service was ridiculous and they tried to charge for everything. To leave your luggage for the day they charge you 6-10 euros. There is no free luggage store which is ridiculous. They sent me an email my first morning saying it was time for check out and my key would be deactivated. With all my stuff in the room and already being out exploring, I was very stressed. Apparently it was an automatic message and incorrect. No apologies for this, just that it’s automatic.Shower towel is ridiculously expensive too. After telling the front desk I may want to switch rooms as I felt uncomfortable I was told it costs 10 euros to clean. I was already checking out in a few hours in the early morning, why would there be a cleaning fee if another bed is open? The staff were nice enough but friendly and didn’t make me feel welcomed. It would be nice if they could make the bed and not have the travelers do this. Especially for travelers coming into the dorm late at night and having to put together a bed, this is very loud!!Location was good and fun taking the ferry back and forth

Maya S — Google review

Extremely expensive hostel that will nickel and dime for any additional service. You will need to pay extra for luggage storage before your room is ready, towel rentals, locks for lockers, access to hostel social events etc. The beds do not have curtains, the lockers are extremely loud to open, and the charging ports do not work. Ive never paid so much for a hostel and recieved so little. You're much better off paying more and getting a far more comfortable hotel room.

Nishka E — Google review

I hadn't spent much time here apart from sleeping, but it served as a good place to stay for a short period of time. I can see that the hostel praises and puts more effort in their common area more than the room itself. My room was certainly clean and well-kept. Beware, that they charge for EVERYTHING. So, the staff is mostly here to charge you for towels, locks, etc. than help you with anything since the whole process is digitalized. All in all, good for 2-3 days.

Nola K — Google review

If it is an amazing place for backpackers. Location is great, the facilities very complete, the staff was incredibly friendly and the overall atmosphere felt really fun.If you are looking to sleep properly, and you are light sleeper, it is hard as you are sharing your room with other people.
