One of the most famous and versatile of Indian dishes, the chapati is an Indian bread made daily in most Indian kitchens. No meal is complete without chapati and we show you easy it is to make them. All ingredients to make chapati for weight loss recipe is easily available in Indian kitchens.

To make whole wheat chapati recipe, combine the whole wheat flour, oil and salt and knead into a smooth soft dough using enough water. Keep aside for 15 to 20 minutes. Cover and keep the dough aside for 15 to 20 minutes. Divide the dough into 6 equal portions and roll out each portion of the dough into a thin circle. Cook the chapati on a non stick tava and then cook it on an open flame till it puffs up. This is how to make soft chapati.

For making the chapati dough, take a deep bowl and add the flour to it.We need to take a deep bowl so that the flour and the other ingredients do not fall off while we are mixing or kneading the dough. 2. Some people like their chapatis bland ,so you can even skip adding salt to your chapati dough. 3. Add water little by little. Be careful while adding water.Adding too much of water initially will make it difficult for you to knead. 4. Apply a little oil on the surface of the dough before you keep it for resting, so that it doesn’t become dry. Cover the dough with a wet muslin cloth. You can also use a food grade quality cling film or a plate to cover the dough. 5. Keep it aside for 15 minutes. This resting period improves the texture of the dough, makes it easier to roll and makes the chapatis softer and fluffier.

Ingredients


For The Chapati
1 cup whole wheat flour (gehun ka atta)
1 tsp oil
salt to taste
whole wheat flour (gehun ka atta) for rolling
3 tsp oil for cooking

Method


For the chapati

  1. To make the chapatis, combine all the ingredients in a deep bowl and knead into a soft dough using enough water. Keep aside for 15 minutes.
  2. Divide the dough into 6 portions and roll out each portion of the dough into a 150 mm. (6”) diameter thin circle using a little whole wheat flour for rolling.
  3. Heat a non-stick tava (griddle) on a high flame and when hot, place the chapati gently over it.
  4. Cook it till small blisters appear on the surface. Turn over the chapati and press all over lightly using a muslin cloth till it puffs up.
  5. Apply ¼ tsp oil on both the sides and cook for few more seconds.
  6. Serve the chapati immediately.

For making the chapati recipe at home

  5. Mix it well with your hands. Gather the flour from all sides. Add more water if it is required.

  6. Make a soft dough by kneading it for at least 2 minutes. We have used approximately 1/3 cup of water. Prefer to use room temperature water for kneading. You may require more or less, as the amount of water depends upon the quality of the flour.

  7. Apply a little oil on the surface of the dough before you keep it for resting, so that it doesn’t become dry. Cover the dough with a wet muslin cloth. You can also use a food grade quality cling film or a plate to cover the dough.

  8. Keep it aside for 15 minutes. This resting period improves the texture of the dough, makes it easier to roll and makes the chapatis softer and fluffier.
  9. Your next step is to divide the dough into 6 equal portions.
  10. Sprinke a little flour on your rolling board and flatten a portion of the dough on it. This will prevent the dough from sticking to your board.

  11. Roll out each portion of the dough into a thin circle of 6”(roughly 152mm) diameter. You can increase or decrease the size of the chapati as per your preference.

  12. Take a flat non-stick tava (griddle) and heat it on a high flame. Reduce the flame when it becomes hot i.e when u can see fumes on your tava . Drizzle a few drops of water, if it sizzles, your tawa is ready.

  13. Put the rolled-out chapati on the tava. You need to cook it till small blisters appear on the surface. Make sure that your tawa is on medium flame.

  14. Turn the chapati over and cook for about 5-7 seconds on a medium flame till light brown spots appear.
