I want to purchase a Bad Boy Buggie to use this year for
getting out to my blind. I have a dealer who is offering to
sell me a 2006 for $4,500. Is this a fair price?

depends on how old the batteries are. Those batteries are EXPENSIVE!!! If they are new-ish I'd say go for it. If not, negotiate and cite the batteries as the reason.

Those 8 'golf cart' batteries will run you $1k EASY !!!

I would take a close look at those batteries and the date that they were installed. If they are 3 or 4 years old or older I would figure in the possibility of replacing them in a year or two. I know four or five years ago replacing those batteries could run around $600 or $700 dollars.

Stay away from dealers and check EBay or Craigslist

I would also agree about the posts about the batteries! That will be the biggest question on the deal.

Secondly, I also agree with the idea of checking craiglist! There are many lifted carts out there that folks have upgraded with high torque motors. Still need to worry about batteries, but you would be surprised at what a golf cart can accomplish! My cart is a 2002 Club Car DS. Other than food plot work, it will do anything I need it to in the woods. No 4 wheel drive, but I really haven't needed it. Hills and some mud have been no problem for it. (I do have an upgraded motor that has high torque and speed.)

Suggestion: Look for a 2000+ model year Club Car DS. Make sure it is a "series" cart, (has a lever for a forward/reverse switch.) Also make sure it's a 48 volt vs. 36 volt. Both will perform well, but you will get a longer range between charges on the 48 volt. This particular Club Car is highly customizable and you should'nt have too much trouble finding one that has already been built. Many should fall within the same price range you mentioned.
Lastly, you may consider buying a basic cart and build it out yourself, exactly as you want it. It's a fun way to get into this. A basic 2000+ Club Car DS can go from $1k to $2500.00.
A great resource for advice on buying and building a cart is:
www.Buggiesgonewild.com. All the folks on that forum are great at it. Specifically, a guy named Scotty B. can set you up with whatever you need.
Good luck and best wishes!

This ^^^^^^. Good advice. I have a 2007 CC DS that was purchased for the frame and motor. Replaced body, top, seat, batteries and wiring. Added 6" lift, 22" wheels and tires, brush guard, windshield, lights, volt meter, accessory outlet and flip-flop rear seat. Upgraded to 350A controller and replaced motor magnet. All of the above from a dealer with 1 yr warranty for $3500 OTD. It's not 4WD but with 1 exception (when I tried to cross a flooded creek bottom that turned out to be knee-deep plus), I've never gotten it stuck. The tires just seem to float across mud. The best feature is how quiet it is. I can ease past other club members in their stands (100 yds off our roads) and if they are looking the other way they never see or hear me.

Gumpbuck buggies gone wild helped me make a decision on a cart.

Releehweoj like you this has been my best purchase ever. 2013 with everything on it being new. The charge on it is crazy after owning two different Bad boys.

Google "Bad Boy Buggies" nothing but negative reviews. Thought they'd get better when they got bought out by EZ Go, not so.

Beautiful RXV....the best cart when it comes to range and power imo.

This.

Don't think I'd ever own a BBB....no matter how good a deal it was.

As far as batteries...they're all stamped. A letter and a number (or sticker). The letter corresponds to the month (A-Jan, B-Feb, C-Mar etc etc). The number is the year (1-2011, 2-2012, 3-2013, 4-2014 etc etc). Depending on the usage, care and how much each charge cycle was depleted, the batteries can last 4-6 years. Anything on a used cart over 3-4 years....I'd just figure on replacing the batteries (around $100-$150 per battery).

As far as run time, 4x12v batteries will give you less run time than 6x8v batteries. The 36v EZGOs are decent carts and much better imo than the 36v Club Cars (I wouldn't own a 36v CC). Also, the PDS EZGOs can have issues with the controller when you start modifying (big tires, lift etc etc). The PDS EZGOs are the one's with the forward/reverse switch on the dash built in the early/mid 2000s. The RXV is the cream of the crop that EZGO has made and the motor has the most torque and range of all the carts standard. A little more expensive, but a very good cart. The 2008-2010 models had issues with the wiring harness, so I'd stay away from those years ($1300 repair) unless it is a deal.

All carts can be customized...each thing costs extra. Many will have headlights/taillights, but not brake lights/horn/blinkers (which allow them to be street legal in some towns).

I do think the best time to buy a golf cart is Dec-Feb. When it is cold....and people are trying to pay off Christmas. Once people start to get their tax refund and the weather starts to warm up....sales pick up as well.

Lastly....if you need a winch/4wd....I don't think a golf cart is best for your needs. At that point, a SxS with gas motor is probably best.

BBB has some bad reviews and some great ones, just like everything else, folks either love them or hatem. This sight seems to have some bad vibes or luck w/ them.

My brother owned one back in the day and loved it, one of the first ones, never had any issues. I had a buddy who had one and loved it until he ragged the heck out of it then had issues finding parts he needed, this was one from early 2000s.

I can tell you, I bought a 2013 ambush (gas and electric) and I love it. Knock on wood no issues at this point. I just bought it for the sole purpose of using at my deer farm to get back and 2 from stands. We dont have a ton of creeks or anything and its relatively flat being in s ga. Also great to use for dove hunts and around the neighbor hood. Like I said, I LOVE it. I also know the dealer really well. I only paid 6000 for mine though and actually knew the previous owner who was a 75 year old great guy who used around his farm. I mostly use mine in gas mode but awesome to be able to switch to batt mode going to stands, so quiet and lots of power. My batteries were brand new so wasnt concerned there. I also think its key to have a dealer close by, mine is right down there road.

Good luck. I truly think they are great if you just dont dog them and like anything take care of the. Now I would not go and spend 15k on a new one lol. If I was going to invest that much it would be kubota.
