Much of U.S. braces for extreme weather, from southern heat wave to possible snow in the Rockies
Much of the U.S. is bracing for extreme weather — especially high temperatures — this weekend and into next week. A heat wave is already affecting many southern states while the Pacific Northwest will experience unseasonably cold weather and the potential for late-season snow in the Rocky Mountains on Monday. Forecasters warned of the potential for severe thunderstorms developing in between hot and cold fronts. Meanwhile, flood waters continue receding in Florida after days of intense rainfall while a plume of tropical moisture will reach the central Gulf Coast in the next couple days.

Residents and communities preparing for heat wave that will envelop Midwest and Northeast next week
A heat wave will bring dangerously hot temperatures to the Midwest and Northeast next week, with health officials urging people to make plans now to stay safe. The National Weather Service says the heat will ramp up Sunday in the center of the country before spreading eastward, with some areas likely to see extreme heat reaching daily records, especially in the Ohio Valley and Northeast. People are encouraged to stay in air-conditioned spaces, drink plenty of water and check on neighbors and relatives who might be vulnerable.
A powerful heat dome is just one of the extreme weather hazards coming next week
(CNN) — Summer technically starts next week and will show the US what it’s capable ofin a world warming due to fossil fuel pollution and without El Niño.

Weeklong heat wave loosens grip slightly on US Southwest but forecasters still urge caution
The weeklong heat wave that baked most of the U.S. Southwest in temperatures well into triple digits is on its last legs, but forecasters are still urging people to be cautious. A slight easing of temperatures is expected through the weekend, with Phoenix and Las Vegas falling short of besting any new records. An excessive heat warning continues through Saturday in Las Vegas, where it's never been hotter this time of year. It was a record-high 110 degrees Fahrenheit in Las Vegas on Friday, 113 degrees F in Phoenix and 100 degrees F in Albuquerque. Even in Florida, forecasters say heat indices have been topping triple digits and records were expected to fall for some cities in the central part of that state.
