The following contains spoilers for Sweet Tooth Season 2, now streaming on Netflix.
Sweet Tooth is back in full swing, darker and deadlier than ever. Season 1 introduced the adorable hybrid-human kids in a violent world owned by humans, some of whom are forced to examine their morality in terrifying times. Now in Season 2, the humans and hybrids are at war. General Douglas Abbot has taken over Aimee Eden's (Dania Ramirez) safe haven Preserve to experiment on the adorable hybrids. On his side and slowly losing his own autonomy is Dr. Aditya Singh (Adeel Akhtar), who is attempting to find a cure for "the Sick" to save his ailing wife. But coming for them is Aimee and Tommy Jepperd (Nonso Anozie), the latter of whom is turning his ugly past around for Gus, a deer hybrid who may be the answer to Abbot and Singh's problems.
Nonso Anozie, Adeel Akhtar, and Dania Ramirez recently spoke to CBR about their characters' fates in Sweet Tooth Season 2 and broke down what makes them tick after Season 1's gripping cliffhanger. Ramirez also discussed how she felt about closing her time on the series after Aimee's death from the Sick while saving her kids from Abbot's last attempt at freeing humanity from the relentless illness.
CBR: We get to see more of Jepperd's backstory -- even more than what we saw in Season 1 -- and what he was like at the onset of the outbreak. How was it exploring his character during the initial outbreak compared to his journey to find Gus?
Nonso Anozie: Well, it's a different thing. At first, he wants to get rid of Gus. He doesn't want Gus in Season 1. He doesn't want Gus to be a part of his life. He wants to be left alone, and eventually, Gus' love, warmth, and innocence melt his heart. [Jepperd] accepts [Gus] as part of his family. So that's definitely the place where they end at. Then having [Gus] ripped away, he's now a man on a mission.
He's now a man that is filled with vengeance and filled with determination to get his newfound family back. Then for him to encounter Aimee, they have to work out whether they're going to become a duo, whether they trust each other, or whether they're going to hate each other. You're not quite sure from the beginning, but I think they're both very resourceful, and we'll see whether they can become a team or not.

Adeel, another person who has gone through quite the transformation is Dr. Singh. We see him get his hands dirty a little bit this season. But he's also going through a really troubling time in his life. What was it like to explore Dr. Singh wrestling with his morality this season while trying to find a cure?
Adeel Akhtar: It was challenging and exhausting because he just goes further and further into the depths of his own sort of insanity. He comes up against some really, really tough questions. But I've said it before, and I'll say it again: it's a rewarding thing because he comes back to the path of goodness, salvation, and righteousness. So it's nice to go through that with him and for him to bring himself back to doing the right thing. It's a fun and ultimately rewarding thing to play.
Dania, I'm going to have to go for the huge spoiler here at the end of the season: Aimee's unfortunate but heroic death. She spends all her time in the outbreak protecting hybrids, and she ends up dying for them. How do you feel about how her story ended this season?
Dania Ramirez: I thought the most heroic thing she could have done was to sacrifice herself for the children. I don't think the Sick had more of an effect on her than losing her children. She wants to build a better world for them. She wants to make sure that they are safe. It's about them. She says it more than once in between Season 1 and Season 2. It's their world, and she really does believe that. I think she's very selfless in the way that she handles things. She really wants to give her life for them. I think that's the most heroic thing that she could have done.
As an actress, I love these people, so it was a very emotional journey for me. But I thought it was beautiful and perfectly written. I'm so grateful to the writing team, the creators, and the cast. There was so much love there, and just to be able to do it justice and be a part of something so special was an incredible journey for me, the actress, and for Aimee. I think she would not have had it any other way. She goes out swinging for those kids.
